Weekly Market Recap & Outlook

Friday’s strength in the S&P 500 evaporated after the bears seemingly couldn’t break through 4,450s on the Fed having an easier time tightening (apparently an easier time, must be said).

So, is the direction in stocks now rather up or down? I’m not expecting truly stellar gains, but the bulls look to be having the upper hand, ever so slightly – and Friday’s crypto move coupled with commodities holding up nicely, seems to agree. Testing the support and rebounding – if we make it that much below 4,500 – looks to be a winning proposition.

Treasuries are telling their story as well – the 10-year yield has been surging lately while the 30-year bond didn‘t move nearly as much. It means a lot of focus on Fed tightening, which is making the recent Amazon and Meta earnings power to move stocks this much, all the better for the S&P 500 in the short run. The 10-year yield is likely to retrace a part of its prior increase, and that would give stocks some breathing room. At the same time though, I don‘t think that the tech selling is done, that tech is out of the woods now – the current rally is likely to run out of steam over the next 5-10 days latest, then go sideways to down.

Stay tuned for Monday’s extensive analysis, and have a nice rest of the weekend.
